The Science of ‘93

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I’m sure most of you out there recall perfectly well who Bill Nye The Science Guy is and I’m also sure that most of you are just as fond of him as I am. You can imagine then how happy I was when I discovered that he is in some way shape or form still active in the media. Specifically he seems to be writing a science column for children. If it wasn’t for my downgrade back to 32-bit XP I probably would never have found out either, but while I was getting updates in internet explorer and muddled through MSN he was on the front page!

As it turns out, he has two new shows! One of which is called “The Eyes of Nye” and airs on PBS and the other is called “100 Greatest Discoveries” and airs on the discovery channel. I don’t really watch television but now that he’s back on the air I think I may start recording the show and perhaps if it doesn’t suck too bad sharing it on mininova.

It Won’t Make Sense

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

I was chatting online (as if!) and searching for good paradise kiss fan service (pictures, videos, etc) with Kari when she stumbled upon this video that doesn’t even pretend to make sense. I really love the song to death, but this video almost makes me think less of it.

This weekend I switched carriers from t-mobile to cingular and got a new phone in the process. I had the hardest time getting it though.

I went to one cingular on mill plain in fisher’s landing area, bought my phone, picked my plan, and when it came time to activate it they told me I had a 750$ deposit and couldn’t help me. So I returned the phone and went to a different cingular over on andresen and this time had them activate my account first and the same thing happened.

Luckily for me though the lady told me that deposit was too high and it couldn’t possibly be right and decided to help me out a bit. So she called the credit department at cingular in charge of determining this and found out that the three credit buereaus were all reporting drastically different amounts. Under transunion I would have the 750$ deposit (absolutely rediculous), under equifax I would have a 250$ deposit (understandable), and under experian I qualified to start my account with no deposit.

So now, I had an account but when it came time to buy my phone they told me I didn’t have the money in my account, which didn’t make sense since I not only had the money I had just bought the phone a couple of hours ago, and then it occured to me that they probably had not yet processed the credit to my account so I had to have Brenda help me out at the store. You could imagine how traumatizing the whole ordeal was.

God Damn Vain Bastard

I’m still using Vista, despite quite a few issues that I’ve encountered. I have had more success than any previous build I’ve tried and even though I won’t be able to use some of my peripherals for a while the OS is just too pretty not to use so I think I’m sticking with it for the long run this time.

My father managed to aquire a position for me at his work it seems, although I won’t disclose too many details untill I make sure I have it. It looks like I’m going to be in a much better financial situation than I have been for a while. This couldn’t have come at a better time either. I’ve been so broke recently and having to move back home was extremely discouraging.

Home Again

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

So I’ll be entirely done movinge home either today or tommorow depending on if I have work today or not. I’m kind of thinking they’ll probably just send me home which is alright because I do want to finish this transition as soon as possible. Besides the bow flex I have very little left to move, and I’d rather that get taken apart after today’s inspection from 1pm to 3pm just so that is isn’t in the way of whoever does that.

I upgraded to vista in the midst of all my packing yesterday as well and RC1 is far better than any build I’ve seen yet of vista. It’s absolutely gorgeus and I don’t take nearly the FPS hit I used to in games. There are still a couple of kinks to work out, most of them concerning the windows media center thing, but it’s super cool for the most part.
