IE SHMIE!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

So I have VMWARE running now and found that IE7 displays very differently on winxp x64 than it does on ie7 vista 64. There are definitely some modifications that I’m going to have to get to on the site … soon … but I’ve been lazy.

I’m glad vmware can solve so many of my problems like the ability to run my work software so that I can do my work in Vista. It’s wierd I had our software running before but after my last flash it seems to have stopped working and I’m wondering if there was something I did different then than I did now.

For the time being I’m really going to have to sleep, but I guess I’ll work extra emails tommorow and friday to make up for my slacking.

I’m so exhausted, I really need a day off soon. I find this job far more exhausting than any I’ve held yet, and I think it’s because I’m constantly answering people’s questions and I just don’t have any time to think for myself like I used to do in my previous jobs.

I’m going to slack like crazy this thursday – sunday.

Intel-agent

So for the first time In a very long time I will be using an Intel CPU. I wouldn’t even have considered it had the Intel Core 2 Duos not been doing so well, but as things stand it seems like that’s really the processor of choice these days. I actually had made this decision some time ago, and I had intended to make the switch maybe May or late April, but then disastor struck.

Sunday night I decided that I would format my pc and install windows 2000, because my vista activation period was almost up and I didn’t want to worry about going through any kind of activation ordeal whenever I did decide to buy my new pc. Halfway through the installation of windows 2000, I change my mind because I realise that Windows 2000 doesn’t support dynamic windows xp partitions. So I turn my PC off and then back on and all my computer does is 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. I had a coworker help me diagnose the problem; it was the video card. If any of you can explain how interupting a hard drive operation killed my video card, please do so.

So at this point I decided it’s about time for a new pc, and considering I purchased my processor in Septemeber of 2003, it was most likely about time. I’ll post full system specs with a Picture when it has actually been built.

Up Again

I’ve upgraded WP to 2.1.2 as it seems there was something dangerous about 2.1.1. There was alot of downtime recently on the server and it made me remember why I had left phpwebhosting the first time. I mean they are really a great host for the most part but before hand I experienced three consecutive weeks where my server went down for one or two days. This is not really that big of an issue considering my site is not time critical or going to affect anyone in any way, but that’s still alot of downtime. I’m going to see what I can do about switching to a VPS soon so I have more direct system control, though I might wait untill after I’ve completed paying off my cards/loans before doing that since a vps is roughly 50$ a month.

So, the day before our server here started acting strangley, giving SQL errors and time outs. At first I thought, hey Alex’s post must have upset someone, but then it seems that the entire server at my host went down. I can only imagine what could have caused it. I’d really like to know as I’m worried something I had done may have caused the error. The site came back up for a short period of time yesterday, but the the SQL DB seems to have been rolled back. Then after a mouse click on my site, the server went down again. The issue seems to have been fixed though, and the database seems to have been restored as well
